“It’s a Win-Win”: How Flexibility Helped Natalie Grow Her Career — and Still Make the School Run

When Natalie Snell rejoined recruitment in 2022, she had one clear goal: Get back into a career she loved — without missing out on family life.

With a background in sales support and recruitment (plus a stint running her own childcare business), Natalie joined Utility People as a Resourcer. A few years later, she’s now an Account Manager — and credits flexible working and a supportive team for making that journey possible.

“Living in a rural village with no public transport means school pick-ups are down to me,” she says.  “The ability to work flexibly — whether that’s leaving early for a school performance or jumping online later to make up hours — has made such a difference.”

Making Hybrid Working… Actually Work

Natalie splits her time between home and the office, and says the balance just works — for her, for her family, and for her performance.

“I love the calm and focus I get at home — no commute, fewer distractions. But I also really value being in the office, catching up with the team, socialising and learning from others.”

That mix of environments helps her stay energised and effective:

“I get more done when I’m trusted to manage my own time. And knowing I have the flexibility to work around my life means I show up more focused and motivated.”

Trust, Support and Space to Grow

Natalie’s growth at UP hasn’t just been about logistics — it’s been about trust.

“There’s always been an understanding that sometimes family needs to come first. I’ve never been made to feel like I’m asking for a favour — it’s just part of how we work here.”

That kind of culture creates space for people to thrive. And Natalie’s proud of how far she’s come.

“Going from Sales Support to Account Manager while raising two kids is something I’m really proud of. I’ve built my career without missing the important moments at home — and I’ve shown my children that you don’t have to choose between work and family.”

Her Advice for Others? Ask the Question.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for flexibility. So many employers are open to it now. It’s all about give and take — as long as you’re doing the work, there’s no reason you can’t do it in a way that works for you.”

At Utility People, we don’t just talk about work-life balance — we make it possible. Because when people are trusted, supported and able to be present (in both life and work), everyone wins.
