Summary
A multi-disciplinary consultancy operating across UK and Ireland are looking for a Water Quality Consultant to lead the coordination and delivery of routine and ad hoc water quality monitoring programmes; oversee field-based sampling and collection of environmental samples for laboratory analysis. Furthermore, the Water Quality Consultant will support the Water & Ecology team to deliver a range of ecological projects, including field surveys and reporting duties. - Project managing response to environmental incidents including designing, and implementing, water quality impact surveys, data gathering & reporting
- Liaising with clients to provide technical advice on both trade effluent and surface water quality discharge compliance
- Overseeing delivery of routine and ad hoc water quality sampling and field data gathering
- Report field data and laboratory analysis data to clients
- Control and take responsibility for project financials
- Support the wider Water & Ecology division through actions such as, but not limited to, aquatic macroinvertebrate and fisheries surveys
- Mentor and facilitate training and development of water quality consultants & technicians
- Ensure the quality of technical report writing
- Oversee a programme of water quality field equipment maintenance & calibration
- Administer supplier invoices and liaising with suppliers and the internal accounts team
- Provision of accurate and timely information to line management
- Assist in leading team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels
Skills & Experience:
- A degree in a relevant science related discipline
- At least 3 years’ experience working in an environmental discipline
- Comprehensive understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters
- Working knowledge of relevant environmental guidance, regulation and legislation
- Understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency
- Awareness of the available water pollution remediation techniques
- Understanding of chemical analyses which can be performed on water
- An understanding of the role of laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring
- Knowledge & experience of biological water quality indicators such as aquatic macroinvertebrate and/or fisheries surveys
- A willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland, to work away and to work long days when required.
- Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Experience in management of a field team is desirable
