Summary:

Our client, a leading green energy supplier is seeking a Head of Monitoring – Trading to oversee their Trading & Portfolio Management (TPM).  You will be responsible for owning, developing, and operating robust middle office policies, processes, risk, assurance, and controls to ensure that the key risks to profitability are being effectively managed, especially now due to wholesale costs. It is critical that my clients wholesale trading activities are effectively managed and monitored, so you will be required to closely monitor all activities across trading & portfolio management, raising any concerns with the SLT. The successful candidate will be highly analytical and have previous experience of developing and operating a risk management framework within the ENERGY industry. Key responsibilities:

  • Line management of up to four Risk Analysts / Assurance Leads
  • Chair the “Risks and Controls” section of the Monthly Trading Risk Committee Meeting
  • Work with Risk Function to agree, document and maintain a TPM Risk Appetite statement
  • Own and maintain a “Market Risk Register” that identifies external risks to profitability
  • Own the Trading Risk Policy and Limits agreed with a wholesale market access provider
  • Develop and own an internal Trading Risk Policy
  • Assess the competency of Traders and Decision Makers within TPM and propose risk limits

Skills and experience required:

  • Energy experience essential
  • 5+ years’ energy experience in analytical, numerical, or science-based subject.
  • Experience of developing and operating a risk management framework within energy
  • Experience of leading an analytical team
  • Possess an understanding of the drivers of wholesale energy costs and risks for Suppliers
  • Experience with data analysis through advanced Excel and/or using programming (e.g., Python) & in working with SQL queries
  • Commercial awareness to support prioritisation and communication at a senior level.
