Summary:

We are looking for an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator to join a Data and Metering Services company. In this role you will be you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the SQL Server databases which support a number of business-critical applications. You'll be involved in the planning, upgrade, and development of databases. The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of administering SQL Server databases. Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor database systems to ensure environments are stable and available.
  • Perform maintenance operations on SQL Server databases
  • Perform database backups, migrations, and restorations of SQL Server databases.
  • Recover corrupted or lost data in test and production systems from backups.
  • Develop, manage, and test database and information system backup and recovery plans
  • Ensure that written processes are in place.
  • Analyse and manage capacity and performance of application databases
  • Promote and maintain data security and compliance for all SQL Server databases
  • Maintain knowledge of technologies that support data applications
  • Maintenance of operational systems may be required out of normal business hours.
  • Liaise with the Data team to discuss priorities, ongoing work and deliver progress updates.
  • Engage with application developers in other teams on best practice in data storage / structure
  • Coordinate with Information Security team on backup, recovery, failover plans, and taking
 

Skills and experience required: 

  • Appropriate qualification or degree
  • Minimum 2 year’s experience in SQL Server databases
  • Performance monitoring and tuning, disaster recovery, high availability using native tools
  • Computer networks, protocols, and security, including Active Directory
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to operate effectively and systematically under pressure
  • Being able to diagnose and resolve a range of complex technical issues
  • Ability to prioritise, plan and organise own work, and delivering to agreed standards.
