About You

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m naturally curious, love a challenge and thrive when I’m around people. I genuinely enjoy building relationships and finding out what makes people tick.

How long have you been at Utility People and what’s your experience been like?

I joined Utility People in 2022 after running my own business. I wanted to get back into recruitment, so I started as a Resourcer to learn the utilities industry from the ground up. Since then, I’ve progressed to Senior Sales Support and now into my current Account Management role.

What do you love most about your job?

I love talking to people! I ask a lot of questions (I’ve even been called MI5 before!), but I like to really understand both people and roles. Learning about candidates’ backgrounds and motivations helps me find the right fit for everyone involved.

Your Career & Experience

How many years have you worked in the industry, and what’s your journey been like?

I’ve been in the utilities sector for 3 years, with several more years in recruitment. I started by focusing on retail energy and later discovered my passion for utilities infrastructure. I love how collaborative and fast-moving the industry is — there’s always something new to learn.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are the same, which is exactly what I enjoy. I might be speaking with clients about new roles, registering candidates, writing job ads, or searching for the perfect match — the variety keeps things interesting.

Any memorable or impactful moments in your role?

Building strong relationships with clients is a highlight. When they trust you to get it right, everything becomes smoother. It’s especially rewarding when you place someone who’s not only happy and thriving but also making a real difference for the client.

Life Outside Work

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I spend most of my time with my kids — whether that’s learning the offside rule with my son or travelling around the UK for my daughter’s national athletics competitions. Before this, I didn’t even know where half the places were!

Do you have any hobbies or pastimes?

Aside from being a full-time taxi service for the kids, I love catching up with friends, relaxing with a G&T after a busy week and planning our next family holiday — it’s always great to have something to look forward to.

Final Thoughts

How do you balance work and personal life?

Utility People is incredibly flexible, which makes a big difference. I mainly work from home, so I can be present for my kids and still make it to school events or appointments — that flexibility is priceless as a mum.

What motivates you, both professionally and personally?

I enjoy the challenge of matching the right person to the right job. Every day brings new conversations and new people — and I love that.

What advice would you give someone starting in this field?

The utilities sector is always evolving, so there’s a lot to learn. Working with a recruiter gives candidates a clearer understanding of the role and a friendly face to support them through the process.
