About You
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m someone who’s passionate about connecting people with opportunities where they can truly thrive. I come from a strong recruitment background and love working in fast-paced environments where I can really make a difference. I’m a big believer in collaboration, continuous learning and always striving to improve—both personally and professionally.
How long have you been working at Utility People, and what has your experience been like?
I’ve been part of the Utility People team for four years now, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. From the start, I felt supported and welcomed. The team culture here is genuinely collaborative, and I’ve grown so much during my time here—not just in my career, but as a person too.
What do you love most about your job?
The people, without a doubt! Whether it’s my amazing colleagues, candidates or clients, I love building relationships and making meaningful connections. Helping people find the right role or helping businesses solve real recruitment challenges is incredibly fulfilling. Every day brings something new.
Your Career & Experience
How many years have you worked in our industry, and what has your journey been like?
I’ve worked in the industry for four years now, and it’s been an exciting and ever-changing journey. The energy and utilities sector is constantly evolving, which keeps things interesting. I’ve learned so much—not just about the industry, but about people, communication and what really drives success.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
No two days are quite the same, which is something I enjoy. My time is usually split between client communications, process improvements and strategy discussions with the team. There’s a balance between planning ahead and staying agile so we can respond to whatever comes our way.
Have you had any particularly memorable or impactful experiences in your role?
Definitely. One of the standout moments for me was developing the strategy to guide Utility People through the post-COVID period. Seeing those plans take shape, bit by bit, was incredibly rewarding. I love a challenge and helping the business grow—even on a tight budget—while supporting the team to thrive has been a highlight of my career.
Life Outside of Work
Can you share a bit about your personal life?
Outside of work, I really value time with my family. I try to keep things balanced and make sure I prioritise the people and activities that give me energy and joy.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love being outdoors—long walks with the dog or hiking are my go-to ways to clear my head and recharge.
Do you have any favourite hobbies or pastimes that keep you busy?
Yes! When I’m not working or with family, I’m on the pitch as an Assistant Referee in the professional game. It’s something I absolutely love and it’s taught me so much—managing emotions, handling pressure, effective communication—it all translates back into life and work. There’s nothing quite like walking out onto the field in front of a packed stadium at 5 to 3 on a Saturday.
Final Piece
How do you balance your work and personal life?
I try to be really intentional with my time. For me, that means setting boundaries, staying organised and being present in whatever I’m doing—whether I’m working, officiating or relaxing with family. Utility People genuinely supports that kind of balance, which makes all the difference.
What motivates you every day, both professionally and personally?
Professionally, I’m motivated by the impact we can have—helping someone land their dream job or helping a business find the perfect person for their team. Personally, I’m driven by growth—learning from challenges and always working to become the best version of myself.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting in your field, what would it be?
Stay curious, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Build real relationships and truly listen—because success in recruitment is just as much about empathy and understanding as it is about technical skill.
