The Company

Lisa was engaged in a major Executive Search assignment with an industry leading Central Data Services Provider for Britain’s gas market. The gas industry is undergoing intense transformation, facing challenges such as integrating biofuels into the grid and exploring the role of hydrogen in future energy scenarios. These efforts are crucial for stakeholders to successfully decarbonise the sector

The challenge

The company operates a unique business model defined by its funding, governance, and ownership arrangements, under OFGEM oversight and funded by various customers on a not-for-profit basis. These customers include pipeline operators, shippers, and suppliers. While their board is already successful and heavily weighted with industry experts crucial to its strategy, the company sought to inject innovation for its critical Digital Transformation programme.

Lisa’s brief was to identify two Non-Executive Directors: one with experience in digital transformation and the other with substantial senior-level regulatory experience from a recognised shipper company.

The solution

  •  7-week turnaround
  •  Approached 132 potential candidates
  •  Throughout the process held weekly progress meetings with the client
  •  Created, profiled, and presented a longlist of 5 candidates for each role – 10 in total after 5 weeks
  •  Shortlisted 3 candidates for each role all of which went through to interview

The result

Successfully placed 2 NEDs – one Digital Transformation focused, and one Regulatory focused.

The Digital Transformation NED is a talented and visionary CIO and NED with experience across multiple industries, such as retail, consumer goods, financial services, business and data services and the public sector. They delivered large-scale digital transformation programs, developed digital and data products and services, and implemented and managed major platforms like SAP and Oracle, whilst overseeing complex service contracts.

The Regulatory NED is a committed, tenacious, curious, and articulate leader with over 20 years of experience in diverse and highly regulated industries, both in the consultancy space as well as in large corporations. Trained as an economist, they specialised in understanding regulation and its impact on the reputation of businesses. Throughout their executive career, they oversaw various regulatory projects, including economic, consumer protection and security and licensing, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in commercial, strategy, technology, finance, and communications departments.
