This role involves close coordination with internal teams (commercial, engineering, production) and external stakeholders (subcontractors, regulatory bodies) to ensure that design plans meet top standards in safety, quality, efficiency, and sustainability. The Design Manager will oversee the project from planning through construction with a focus on customer satisfaction and compliance. If you bring strong design and construction experience, leadership skills, and BIM expertise, apply today!

Key responsibilities:

  • Review and approve subcontractor design packages to align with project objectives.
  • Liaise with planning authorities, building control & utilities to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Manage change requests and lead value engineering for cost-effective and efficient designs.
  • Track/manage design schedule to ensure timely deliverables/approvals at each project stage
  • Encourage the use of BIM protocols and Lean construction techniques for data-sharing, collaboration, and resource optimisation.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience in managing on-site design services, ideally on large infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership skills in a matrixed organisation, with a strong focus on customers.
  • Expertise in BIM and familiarity with current procurement methods.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., RIBA, BIBSE, IET) and a valid CSCS card.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, with strong report-writing and numeracy skills
  • Knowledge of industry codes and regulatory standards.
  • Dedication to continuous improvement and customer focus, with a commitment to innovative and sustainable construction practices.
