Renz was recently working with a candidate who he had approached for a role. He was recruiting for a Key Account Manager, and the candidate was a Senior Relationship Manager who had been working for a competitor of his client for 8 years.

Initially the candidate was very interested in the role, and excited about moving her career forward. However, once the interview request came through and she reviewed the Job Description in more detail, she told Renz she was going to withdraw from the process.

She had gone through the ‘Key Responsibilities’ line by line and decided that the job was beyond her capabilities. She even suggested someone from her network would be a better fit! She was nervous about attending what would be her first interview in 8 years and had talked herself out of taking this any further – a clear case of Imposter Syndrome.

Renz called her and explained his client could clearly see the skills and experience she had gained in her current role and were very excited to meet her, as they felt she could be an excellent match for their business. Luckily, she believed Renz and with renewed confidence attended the interview and really impressed his client.

Just because you don’t tick every box on a Job Description, don’t give up!! Have a chat with Renz – with his experience of recruiting in this sector, he will quicky tell you whether or not you are a credible applicant for a specific job.
