The Company

Lisa was engaged on a major Executive Search project for a one of the largest and longest established Gas Transporters (IGT) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNO). They own and operate gas and electricity networks and gas smart meters all over the UK, with 700,000 customers connected on a variety of residential, industrial and commercial networks.

With 20 years’ experience in the industry, their leadership team have instilled a customer – centric culture and take great pride in ensuring they deliver and develop the best possible service for those that live and work on their networks.

The challenge

The client had recently been acquired by a leading international investor with a 15-year infrastructure deal who wanted the organisation to grow organically over a 3-5 year term. Their success was dependent on continuing excellent relationships with existing customers, contractors and service providers for the construction, maintenance and operation of both the gas and electricity distribution networks.

They were seeking to appoint an Operations Director who complimented their vision for the future – a progressive and driven individual – tomorrow’s talent!

The solution

  • 12-week turnaround
  • Approached 132 potential candidates.
  • Throughout the process held weekly progress meetings with the client
  • Created, profiled, and presented a longlist of 4 exceptionally strong industry candidates.
  • Shortlisted 2 candidates who went forward to interview.

The result

Lisa successfully found their new Operations Director – a Chartered Engineer and Professional Asset Manager – with a broad set of experiences and credible technical knowledge within the Gas Distribution Network arena.  He had an impressive track record of leading teams and delivering large scale projects in both the energy and regulated utilities sectors.

His initial focus was on the approval, acquisition and maintenance of the organisation’s gas and electricity network and metering assets.  He oversaw a diverse team which ensured networks were designed and operated in a safe and efficient manner whilst working collaboratively with customers. He developed trust and rapport based on mutual respect, injecting controlled measures and processes, whilst re-energising and introducing new ways of thinking that aligned with the company values.
