The Company
Lisa was engaged on a major Executive Search project for a leading service provider in the water and wastewater infrastructure sectors in the UK. Their success has been to deliver a cost effective, quality service to our clients, customers and stakeholders offering services from design, construction, repair, refurbishment, and renewal.
The challenge
Due to an expanding portfolio, both within the existing client base and with new opportunities, the size and complexity of the business continued to grow, with the client recently appointed as strategic contractor partner to support the delivery of one of Scotland’s biggest capital investment infrastructure programmes.
They were seeking to appoint a Commercial Director who complimented their vision for the future –it was necessary to expand the commercial capability within the team by appointing an experienced Commercial Director. The ideal candidate would play a critical role in helping achieve the change needed, on the scale and speed required to meet the challenges of providing services the public can rely, a candidate with commercial a conscience, ensuring targeted margin was achieved, and risks were appropriately managed.
The solution
-
- 5-week turnaround
- Approached 63 potential candidates.
- Throughout the process held weekly progress meetings with the client.
- Created, profiled, and presented a longlist of 4 exceptionally strong industry candidates.
Shortlisted 2 candidates who went forward to interview.
The result
Lisa successfully found their new Commercial Director – a passionate and detailed Senior Commercial professional on an upward curve career, experienced in leading commercial teams throughout the UK and successfully leading on complex contractual negotiations for large scale frameworks and projects opportunities, possessing exceptional interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
When the initial debriefing took place for their ideal candidate, one of the key metrics was they needed someone who could smooth the commercial waters and be visible in the business to build strong relationships of engagement. Lisa not only identified a candidate with the excellent capabilities for the role, she also identified a candidate with exceptional stakeholder engagement experience, who had enthusiasm and drive but also, a candidate who knew only too well, to be successful you must build and foster relationships through collaboration and create a culture of collaboration with everyone they encountered, making sure lines of communication were open and easy.
