Combat The Nerves

Alongside appearance, punctuality and first impressions, one of the most common components of an interview is the ability to conquer those nerves. Everyone has their own way of dealing with their nerves, from trying to relax on the day of the interview, to listening to music, or even taking herbal remedies.

We would recommend that you do whatever works for you to get into a nice relaxed state of mind for the interview. Change your mindset to think about how much of an asset you would be in this role and say to yourself ‘I am going to get this job!’.

Many recruiters will tell you that preparation is key, and they are right! Ultimately, it will come down to whether or not you are able to do the job, but your answers to their questions are just as important and if you interview for similar roles, you’ll start to notice a pattern with the questions. So go over some of the questions you were asked in previous interviews, or do some research to help with your answers.

As long as you have researched the role, the company and their competitors (all of which are vitally important in the majority of interviews), this will show your future employer that you know what you are talking about. Don’t agonise about “what if I haven’t covered everything”, because this will not help you to battle those nerves. As long as you are confident in what you are saying, you are onto a winner, and that potential dream role.  And remember getting an interview is one of the hardest parts, so getting that far is already a huge accomplishment. Good Luck, stay calm and go get the role you deserve!
