Happy New Year everyone!!  We’ve left 2021 behind and let’s hope 2022 finally sees us pulling away from all the trauma of the past 2 years.  So – is 2022 the perfect year for new opportunities?  If you are thinking about looking for a new job, why not make contact with a recruiter to help you secure your dream job?

At Utility People, we have come up with some top tips to help you:

Know what you want!

Ask yourself a few questions before you start.  What type of job do you want? What type of company do you want to work for? What are your key drivers for wanting to change jobs?

These really are the basics, but if you can verbalise what you are looking for and why, this will really help your recruiter to have a much clearer understanding of your wish list and help them to focus in on suitable roles!

Make sure you can create a positive rapport with your recruiter!

The relationship between you and your recruiter is pretty unique.  Within 2 minutes of first speaking to you, they will be asking you some pretty personal questions, wanting you to share your goals and aspirations with them, so it is really important you feel comfortable and able to trust them. Here at Utility People, we focus on employing consultants with empathy, who are able to build a trusting and honest relationship with their candidates from the get-go.

Share as much information as you can!

The more information you can share with your recruiter, the better! Explain previous career choices, gaps in your CV and what is important to you.  This way your recruiter will have a really good understanding of who you are and what makes you tick, and will help them to find you the most suitable roles for you, and how best to market you and your specific skillset to potential employers.

Feedback!

Always ask your recruiter for feedback!  If you have chosen your recruiter wisely, and have built a solid relationship with them, they will give you honest feedback.  So even if you weren’t successful in getting that first job you interviewed for, take notice of the feedback and use it to improve for the next interview.  We always say that any failed interview is simply a practice run for the next time!  Always remember, your recruiter is there to help you and they want you to succeed!

Once you’ve got the job, don’t forget about your recruiter!

You can never predict the future and you never know when you will next be looking for a new job, so, keep in touch with your recruiter – especially if they did a good job for you.  If your recruiter is any good, they will no doubt want to keep in touch with you anyway, but keeping yourself on their radar is always useful.  You never know when a really exceptional opportunity might pop up on their horizon, and if you are in their thoughts, you’ll be the first to hear about it! And don’t forget to refer colleagues to them – either if they are hiring or looking for a new job themselves – if you do this, you will fast become your recruiters favourite candidate 😊

So, we hope 2022 is an amazing year for you, and if you are looking for that new challenge, why not drop us a message?  Here at Utility People, we specialise in recruitment in the Energy, Water, and Utilities industries, so get in contact and send us your CV today!
