Community Project – Stanwick Lakes

As part of our passion for sustainability, we felt we wanted to support a local organisation doing their bit for nature and the environment with a particular focus on the community.

We are delighted to have partnered with Stanwick Lakes – a unique 750 acre nature reserve located in the heart of Northamptonshire.

Stanwick Lakes is managed as a social enterprise by environmental charity, Rockingham Forest Trust, in partnership with North Northamptonshire Council.

What they Do

Environmental conservation – this former sand and gravel quarry has been transformed into a nature reserve and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a Special Protection Area (SPA) and a wetland of international importance.

Its aim is to inspire people to adopt a greener, more wildlife-friendly lifestyle, as well as being a recreational site that offers a host of activities for families including an adventure playground, assault course, adventure trail, cycle hire, walking routes and cafe.

Heritage

Rockingham Forest Trust has managed a number of Heritage Lottery funded projects involving schools and young people to help them discover more about the history of where they live

Education

Educational visits for schools and youth groups are provided on a variety of subjects linked to the national curriculum.

Health, Wellbeing and Supporting Disadvantage

The Trust works to promote health and improve people’s well-being such as Health walks. The paths are surfaced and mostly flat meaning they are suitable for all. To support disadvantage the Trust runs sessions with local groups including adults with learning disabilities.

Our collaboration

We are delighted to have helped with the introduction of some new recycling bins for the site, both financially as well as physically. We literally rolled our sleeves up and helped with the site preparation! Much more to come…
